Blood of the Damned part 17

Posted by sinfulwolf - February 2nd, 2010

A filler chapter? Sorta kinda not really. Lets just say in the words written on the wall in 28 Days Later "The End is extremly fucking nigh".
Next story is going to be titled "War of the Damned" and it will follow a female vampire warrior. There will be a lot more vampires involved in the prequel story.
Also, keep an eye out after this story ends, because I'll be then setting up a "Story Subscription page" and the "Table of Contents/ Subscription page" and a FAQ for WotD.
Enjoy the chapter.

Blood of the Damned
Part 17

The butt of his carbine cracked against the ghoul's face, smashing it against the glass that it had leapt at earlier. Jay brought his arms up, and without a sound smashed the undead creature again, then again, until its skull split open, it brains leaking out in a grey mush.

He smirked as he turned from the body and hobbled after Haley and Lila, both heading towards the exit of the compound, to get out of this tomb. They had their answers, it was time to get off this damn island.

Moving through the dark corridors by the illumination of the glow stick, the trio could heard creatures shambling in the darkness, following them. Jay limped as quickly as he could, regretting dropping his walking stick just outside. His hands tightened on his carbine, even as Lila slipped her finger into the trigger guard of her pistol.

Turning a corner, the green light revealed a group of zombies awaiting them. Lila let out a yelp and fired, splashing one's brains across the wall behind it, but the ghouls didn't move; simply stared.

There was a moment of hesitation, as Haley looked at them, pulling her sword free of its scabbard.

"And so we find one of God's favourites, fallen from grace by defending the impure," came a rough voice from behind them.

Haley turned to see a large zombie, military dog tags hanging around his neck, and only clad in camouflage pants. His arms were crossed across his barrel like chest as he stared at the three humans.

"What the fuck?" Lila whispered to herself.

The creature only laughed, and Haley turned to face subject 05. She smirked, and nodded to Jay.

"Let's see your flock get over this one," he muttered, lifting the M4 to his shoulder and flipping the selector switch to automatic. The noise from his bursts filled the cramped hallway, and the zombies before them crumpled to the ground with their brains sloshed within their skulls.

The smell of gunpowder filled the air, and Haley bared her fangs at the creature, who could only stare back in shock, before Lila fired a single shot into its head, bursting the skull open. Subject 05 collapsed to the ground in a bloody heap, and Haley stepped above him and plunged her sword down into where his heart would be.

The Alpha was made of more pure vampire genetics than the regular zombie hordes, and she had to be sure he was dead. As she twisted the blade, ensuring the heart torn within his chest cavity, the howl of zombies reached her ears, cut off from their commander.

"Well... we apparently pissed them off. Let's get the fuck out of here," Jay said, starting to move past the creatures he killed, careful not to slip in the puddles of blood they left pooling on the floor.

As Haley pulled her sword free, she thought she heard a voice whispering to her. Frowning she looked back from where they had come. There was something else in here with them.

John looked at the empty tank of subject 04. An apostle who quickly ran off to squander his gifts against the fallen ones. The vampires would not be able to get past their pride and arrogance he knew. They would defend the impure until their hearts were torn from their bodies.

Pressing a needle into the dead skin of his neck, he hoped the virus at its purest form would take hold now. It had not worked for Subjects 01 to 03, but they were weak. John was strong now, and he would lead the revolution, and earn the love bestowed upon him.

Tossing the needle away, he walked out into the hallway, and reached out, touching the minds of his flock, beckoning them to this holy temple. Their crusade was nearly at an end, and he would be damned if these heretics escaped his wrath.

Outside the compound, zombies began to filter into the dark corridors, groans escaping rotting lungs as they hunted for flesh. Their messiah called to them, and they answered.

So Hailey killed an alpha zombie... obviously not the brightest alpha zombie...

Hey, he just woke up. No one is at their brightest when they first wake up.

kickin ass once again.

the way you write always astounds me, so graphic and real.

John might have a zombie buddy to help kick ass.

Haley and company still have a big fight ahead, it ain't that easy to kill the Alpha Zombie.

good job as always, i need to start writing my next one.

And i played Dead Rising, pretty fun game. Nothing more fun than beating a zombie down with a cardboard box.

Again, I found myself setting up the fight I had intended to take place in this chapter. Oh well. Haley, Jay and Lila do still have a big fight ahead of them, and I won't be stalling on it anymore.

Dead Rising was quite fun, though I haven't played it in ages. Dead Rising 2 will get me back in the groove though when it comes out. In the meantime I've got Mass Effect 2 and Left 4 Dead 2, and next week, Dante's Inferno. The week after, Aliens vs. Predator 3.

Dammit, you scared me there for a second! I thought you had killed off John already! I woulda been PISSED. But you didn't.

Ohhhh man... I can just taste the tension, it's so real! I know it's real when my stomach feels it (or maybe I just haven't been eating enough? I know how to solve malnutrition: take the zombie diet. Eat anything that moves, tied down or not! LAWL :) I'm still looking forward to the inevitable meeting of John and the survivors. I can't wait to see what John can really do. It's gonna be sweet.

On another note, I find it so ironic that your pictures are now styled after Selene from Underworld. Especially the one picture that I'm fairly certain was from the third one. Which almost perfectly coincides with your upcoming War of the Damned. You planned that, didn't you? (I didn't watch the third. Did I miss anything good?)

Also, can you pm me when the WotD subscription page is up? I'm interested to see how this will all add up.

And lastly, sorry. I've been swamped and, as such, have had no free time for my monthly post, let alone Guardian. I'm almost ready to make my Guardian post, but I want to do the monthly post first, keep it up for a week or two, than post the first page about Guardian. So, it's gonna be a while. I'm so sorry :'( I hope to not keep you waiting that much longer. We'll just say that if the first page isn't up by the end of March, it means the idea fell through. Hope it doesn't get to that tho...

I meant to kind of scare the readers like that actually, making them think John was killed off so easily. But he won't be. Glad that the tension is building up enough, I'll have to release that soon though.

The picture on my profile is actually the actress Zita Gorog, who was in Underworld 1 and 2 only. It's not Selene but rather one of the Vampire elders. This picture is from the start of the second movie, but I did think it tied in nicely with War of the Damned.

Also, the story archive page is up now, you can find it through the Blood of the Damned subscription page. Comment there to receive a PM when War of the Damned starts up to make it easier for me.

Hopefully your idea doesn't fall through, I'm waiting for your next page update.

Well, I have to say.... just who was the cocky zombie who got powned by Jay? Subject 4? And speaking of jay, he was kicking butt. the zombies hoard was mincemeat. avid fan of your work, cant wait to see the effects of that blood john had taken.

It was indeed Subject 04. I take enjoyment out of bringing down cocky characters. Jay is a good fighter, its why he's still alive after 5 years of a zombie plague that's taken over the world.
Glad you enjoy my work, and next chapter will more than likely be the fight that everyone has apparently been waiting for.

oh yeah

the new Alien vs Predator demo comes out tomorow.

The demo does eh? I may have to look into that.

Look into it.... are you gonna get xboxlive?

Perhaps, perhaps not. That's not something I'll be sharing here.

interesting

its the Multiplayer Demo

Shame. I'm a single player gal.

thats a bummer too cause the Bad Company 2 demo is multiplayer.

and its just so awesome

Eh, played it at a friends house. It was very cool. But the accuracy of the rifles (or should I say lack there of) bothered me, as did the absolutely useless 40mm grenade launcher.

Snipers? Or the Assault Rifles?

i'm almost always flying the adorable little helicopter UAV.

the Grenade Launcher i find very useful when taking out walls and stationary gun turrets.

still, you have you own opnion i have mine.

now to play me some Crackdown.

Assault Rifles.

But I shot the 40mm grenade launcher at someone, saw it hit directly beside them, and they didn't even get hurt. It is aggravating, seeing that those things mess people up, but not neccesarily structures as their primary function is fragmentation.

Anyway, enough of that. We each have opinions indeed.

ahhh, again you satisfy me with your amazingly interesting story.i give this chapter 10/10.

Why thank you so much!

no thank you for entertaining me.

You are most welcome.

I'm intrigued as to the thought of another thinking zombie besides John. We've seen the pods, but I didn't think any were alive. Look's like John's not so alone.

Saw some mistakes, but not too bad.

Can't wait for next chapter!

No, John's not so alone, but he is once again, as Subject 04 is dead.

Eh, not everyone is perfect. I'm sure I miss a few typos.

Next chapter is already up.
